- We finished Bryn's big girl room. We were scared to transition her over to her new room because we thought it would go terribly. The first night, she cried for about five minutes and kept asking for her "baby bed." This was very hard on us, but she is doing great now! Like the dreaded pacifier experience, she surprised us with the transition. Here is a picture of her finished room!
- I don't want to forget the adorable look on Bryn's face last night when she came into my bathroom having gotten out of her bed, opened her bedroom door (and closed it...smart girl) and went down the hall to find me taking a bath. She was pretty proud of herself. For now, she seems to be minding when we put her back in her bed and tell her not to come to our room until she sees light outside. And so it begins...
- First time eating at Urban Table!
- Aunt Elizabeth's Birthday Celebration and Dance Party. In the middle of dancing, Bryn told her Grammy to "go dance with yourself." So that was cool.
- Bryn saying "I love you too, momma" every time I tell her I love her. I also love how she says "Me too" when you express an opinion.
- Bryn saying. "I don't like you" to me for the first time. Girlfriend's got some nerve I tell ya, as this was not said in response to getting in trouble, but out of nowhere and in front of her grandma and aunt Elizabeth while riding in the car. So that was also cool.
- Every morning there is a battle in the Sterner household to get Bryn out the door. A lot of it is due to our emphasis on letting her do things herself, such as put her jacket on. This has led to a five minute delay in ANYTHING that we need her to do because she now tells us "I'll do it myself" and then moves at the pace of a snail. The more you ask her to do it, the slower she goes. She also just must, I mean absolutely must, take at least one, but usually two toys with her in the car. She knows that she has to leave them in the car, but it is a way to delay doing what we are asking her to do. The entire experience is a battle of wills and we will miss it someday.
- Going to Brookside St. Paddy's Day parade with the Morgan's. Erin was titled Queen of the Lawrence St. Paddy's Day Parade our Senior year of college. This, of course, did not go unnoticed by the group or her #1 former Lady in Waiting. She did not show up with her crown as requested.
- Bryn has learning lessons related to tattling. She tattled on Lane when Lane came to play and tattles on Emma for swiping on her (what a crime) about three times a day. We tell her not to tattle and she kind of looks at us like, but what are you here for then?
- Spring Birthdays! We decided that Bryn's new outfit was not the cause of KU losing in the second round of the tournament. There was no amount of superstition that could have helped.
- I don't want to forget Face time with Great-Grammy and Poppy Beth. Bryn decided that this would be a good time to smack Emma on her head. Kid has never laid a hand on any of our animals and then she gets in front of her great-grandparents and BAM. I don't think anyone but me noticed, but I was cracking up.
- Bryn does not like it that I am not willing to carry her down the stairs in the house. So we have made a game where she pretends like she is helping me (and baby sister) walk down the stairs by holding my hand. I feel terrible, but my balance is already a little off. I promised her that in a few months, I will carry her anywhere she wants to go for the rest of her life. Except when I'm carrying the baby. Or when I'm recovering from the c-section. Or when I finally have my glass of wine. Poor kid.
- Level II Sonogram. Baby Girl Sterner is doing great! We had the sonogram at 22 weeks to check her heart and other organs and everything checked out fine. At that time, she was 1.1 lbs and had a 143 heart rate. We got one great picture of her profile and one of her foot and then a couple creepy shots of her yawning (the sonogram did not pick up the skin of her cheeks--she does not have that big of a mouth) and facing us (skeletor look). I think in her profile picture, she looks like Bryn! It also appears that she has my wide feet. Sidenote- the sonogram technician was pretty funny and pointed out that she knew that Baby Sterner was a girl because her hands were up by her face throughout the sonogram. Little boys always have their hands down by their (ahem). Who is surprised by this?
- School Fun. Bryn is sweet and lovely 99% of the time at school from what we hear, but I do not want to forget the cold day in early March when I walked in and was informed that Bryn was put in "recovery" (hippy time out) multiple times for trying to pull the fire alarm. This should surprise approximately 0 of my sorority sisters. Dear Bryn: setting off fire alarms in places that are wired to the fire department is very expensive and makes people angry. You should especially avoid this during finals week, or in your world, Halloween, Valentine's Day and friend birthday events. Just a heads up.
Once may think that this below picture is evidence of a crime. Perhaps it is, but there were no eye witnesses.
Bryn wondering what a turnover is. Must be a 2014 KU fan.
- Bryn's first Disney on Ice experience. She wanted to sit on Erin's lap with Lane. Pregnant mom did not object. She also requested Minnie light ears and popcorn. She received a half a bag of M&Ms instead. (Go Mom's for not walking out with plastic junk!) Her favorite characters were the dinosaur from Toy Story and Tinker Bell. It was very fun.
- Update on Tegan's well being: Tegan almost lost her rights to be a member of this family last month. The **** dog ate our designer carpet on our stairs and then decided that the rules of the yard do not apply if Nick is traveling. Nick traveled every week in March, so after about the 50th time of me having to chase Tegan around the neighborhood while pregnant, almost tripping and falling on my stomach and coming back to find Bryn standing and balancing on the cat post in order to see me run around the yard, I told Nick that we are either getting a fence or getting rid of the dog. Here is our new fence! (Along with four new trees---word of advice, don't bring up landscaping with me unless you want to be bored out of your mind. I'm obsessed.)
- Update on the milk story from last post: Erin Morgan is about three million times better with kids than we are and persuaded Bryn that she needed to drink white milk to be "strong like Lane." Here is Bryn being strong like Lane. She hasn't objected to white milk since. I will ignore my inner voice saying that Erin accomplished in 3 minutes what I could not in 1.5 years. This is one of the many reasons why it is important to have good girlfriends. It takes a village, folks.
